So here I am reading the forums over at Vegan Freaks and I come upon this thread which points here: Tofutti is not vegan!

Write Tofutti and tell them to make their products without bone char processed sugar!
Sorry if this is an old topic but I couldn't find anything on tofutti in the forum. Anyway, I just found this out today:
I was surprised to find out that most tofutti ice cream isn't really vegan because of the sugar. I wrote the company because I heard the ice cream wasn't vegan, they confirmed that the sugar may have been filtered through bone char. Why do they think they can play vegans against each other like they do in the letter? They use the excuse "some strict vegans", like it's some random vegans fault that they claim their product to be vegan on their site.
Here's the letter they sent:
Thank you for your recent Tofutti email. We consider our frozen dessert products to be vegan. However, since most of them use regular cane sugar and in some instances the cane sugar may be processed with animal bone char, some strict vegans may not agree with us. Some of our frozen dessert products, like our Totally Fudge Pops and Marry Me Bars use organic sugar. Please feel free to contact us should you have any further questions.
