Mars candy kills!! by: c0c0c0 2007-12-10 17:06:41
PETA has uncovered gruesome evidence that candy giant Mars has been paying experimenters to conduct deadly tests on mice, rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits. We're launching a worldwide boycott of Snickers, M&M's, Twix, Milky Way, 3 Musketeers, Starburst, Dove, Skittles, and other Mars-made products until the company has a heart and stops hurting animals.
Right now, Mars is funding a study at the University of California, San Francisco, in which experimenters force-feed rats by shoving plastic tubes down their throats. The animals are then killed and cut open.
Mars has also paid experimenters to do the following:
* Force mice to swim in a pool of water and paint and find a hidden platform to avoid drowning—only to be killed later
* Surgically attach plastic tubes to guinea pigs' carotid arteries and inject cocoa ingredients into their jugular veins to induce dramatic decreases in blood pressure
* Force rabbits to eat high-cholesterol diets with varying amounts of cocoa and then cut out and examine primary blood vessels to their hearts
Not one of these tests is required by law for candy. Mars' chief competitor, Hershey's, has already signed PETA's statement of assurance pledging never to conduct or fund tests on animals.
We need your help to end Mars' cruel experiments! Visit our new http://MarsCandyKills.com campaign Web site to find out what you can do to help.
Sincerely,
Jason Ullman

Protest! Please attend! by: c0c0c0 2005-02-18 01:57:00
**This was originally posted by cowhugga in the forums**
How would you like to be a circus animal stolen from your family, beat, and chained for life? we can help each one of them Please attend my protest this saturday evening for a fun and creative protest against "The Great Circus of China" a circus that brags of having the only performing pandas in the world along with asian elephants covered with scars, lions forced to do the "lion dance" and much more. The worst part is that this circus will show 3 times in one day. The animals need us to speak for them! Please join my protest, which will feature distinctive very eye cathing hand made signs, cute ideas like getting those little packages of cleanixes(sold ten little packs for $1.00) and tie a ribbion around each one with a paper attatched that says "cry for the circus animals they are being abused, circues.com" and awesome animal masks and handcuffs to wear simbilzing confinement and of course lots of lit. This circus has been publicized sooo much we need to fight back however we can, because most of these people have never even thought of circuses being cruel so we can make a BIG difference! Please join me at the following date and time if you live in KANSAS, OKLAHOMA or TEXAS:
Time/date: Febuary 19th, protest starts at 6:00
Location: Liberal Kansas at the activity center/fairgrounds, we will meet in the parking lot before the protest
Please attend if you can it's SOO important! if you can attend email me at: ikillmathematics@hotmail.com so I know how many people to expect.
This will be a fun protest I hope to see each of you there!

EarthFirst Technologies, Inc. To Establish First U.S. Bio-refinery by: c0c0c0 2007-05-31 20:09:39
Channahon vegetable oil fractionation plant being converted to EFTI 60-million gallon per year Bio-refinery.
TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--EarthFirst Technologies, Incorporated ("EarthFirst" or "the Company") (OTCBB:EFTI) today announced details of its plans to establish the United States’ first Bio-refinery. This facility will be capable of producing ASTM 6751 biodiesel, as well as other high value products from palm-based methyl esters produced during the biodiesel production process.
Similar projects exist in Singapore and Malaysia, but the facility located in Channahon, Illinois will be the first in the United States.
The key to the Company’s Bio-refinery is the use of palm oil based feedstock. The chemical composition and stability of palm oil make it suitable for refinement into numerous products.
To secure the continuous availability of palm oil feedstock, EarthFirst has entered into a 15-year Supply Agreement with LODERS CROKLAAN USA, LLC (“Loders”), a wholly owned subsidiary of the IOI Group. IOI has an existing supply chain for palm oil products from Malaysia to Channahon, Illinois which serves Loders’ specialty fats business supplying the requirements of the US food industry. The Company also has a 15-year Agreement with Loders to lease a currently unused vegetable oil fractionation facility, located on its own self-contained site, adjacent to Loders’ other operations in Channahon.

Strict Vegan Ethics, Frosted With Hedonism by: c0c0c0 2007-01-24 00:00:00
By JULIA MOSKIN
The New York Times
ISA CHANDRA MOSKOWITZ, a vegan chef, does not particularly like to talk about tofu. Ditto seitan, tempeh and nutritional yeast.
“I think vegan cooks need to learn to cook vegetables first,” she said last week during a cupcake-baking marathon. “Then maybe they can be allowed to move on to meat substitutes.”
Ms. Moskowitz, 34, was born in Coney Island Hospital, lives in Brooklyn, and is a typically impatient and opinionated New Yorker. She can’t stand how slowly most cooks peel garlic, makes relentless fun of Rachael Ray and rolls her eyes at the mention of California hippies.
But as a vegan and a follower of punk music since age 14, she is also part of a culinary movement that helped turn the chaotic energy of punk culture of the 1970s and 1980s into a progressive political force.
“Punk taught me to question everything,” Ms. Moskowitz said. “Of course, in my case that means questioning how to make a Hostess cupcake without eggs, butter or cream.”
The charm of Ms. Moskowitz — in person, in her cookbooks and on her public-access television cooking show, the Post-Punk Kitchen — is that she makes even the deprivations of veganism and the rage of punk seem like fun. Like feminism that embraces makeup and miniskirts — the frivolous bits — Ms. Moskowitz’s veganism embraces chocolate, white flour, confectioners’ sugar, and food coloring.

Florida Expressway to Entomb Live Gopher Tortoises by: c0c0c0 2007-04-08 21:16:45
Dear Jared,
PETA was just alerted to an urgent situation in Central Florida. A permit has reportedly been issued to the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority, which has been authorized to pave a new freeway interchange over the habitat of helpless gopher tortoises—a threatened species—as well as dozens of other sensitive species. Click here to read more about this disturbing situation. According to wildlife experts, it could take months—up to a year—for tortoises who are buried alive to die of suffocation, dehydration, and starvation in their burrows.
Please contact Orange County authorities immediately and urge them to halt construction of this expressway at once. Demand that they explore humane alternatives by consulting with experts. There is no justification for allowing these animals to suffer and die in agony.

Student Robert Cowan shares his reasons for veganism
By Robert Cowan
Source: Gonzaga Bulletin
I used to ridicule non-meat eaters mercilessly in my younger days. Why, I thought, would one want to sacrifice something as great as meat simply for the sake of some silly animal? In retrospect, my ignorance is somewhat appalling.
While there are an abundance of arguments for vegetarianism based on animal rights and environmental concerns, the clearest reason that one might change one's diet is simply for the radical health benefits associated with alternative diets. Meat eating has been linked to stroke, type II diabetes, heart disease, a variety of cancers, gallstones, hypertension, constipation, Alzheimer's, asthma, impotence, coronary artery disease, osteoporosis and myriad other ailments.
